Tania Giannouli Trio
Tania Giannouli accompanied by Andreas Polyzogopoulos (trumpet) and Kyriakos Tapakis (oud) forms a unique trio, performing exciting original compositions of an idiosyncratic blend of music, blurring the boundaries between East and West, contemporary, world and jazz. The Tania Giannouli Trio first performed together at the legendary Jazzfest Berlin in 2018. The Downbeat review described their music as “compelling melodies with rolling momentum…like Manfred Eicher’s dream of a Mediterranean holiday”. German magazine JAZZTHETIK cited the concert among the best of 2018, while All About Jazz placed the trio’s concerts among the highlights of 2019.
Spanning a remarkable range of styles, Tania Giannouli’s music is inspired by many different traditions: Cinematic, contemporary chamber, fully improvised, jazz and ethnic, all blended in an exciting way. Their debut album has already been widely acclaimed internationally. "Tania Giannouli makes jazz of the kind where improvisation is just the starting point and somewhere out there -- or something deep inside -- is the aim" (Graham Reid, Elsewhere, NZ)
Tania Giannouli: piano
Andreas Polyzogopoulos: trumpet
Kyriakos Tapakis: oud
First there is the shock of the sounds: the piano, the oud, the trumpet. The timbres distinguish and respond to the magnificent canvas woven by the compositions of Tania Giannouli. In her desire to experiment, she often dares forms of music that are sometimes difficult to tackle. Here, none of that. The pieces are clear and, on top of that, there are superb and welcome improvisations. This album feels good, it's like a sea wind which carries off the miasma of a deleterious time.
